JUDGING METHODOLOGY: Panels will be comprised of qualified women of wine media, wine/vineyard research, winemaking, wine education and wine marketing. Majority will rule in reaching a consensus. Large classes might go through elimination rounds. New bottles will be opened for medal-round tasting. Judges may ask for a new bottle to be poured if they believe a wine to be “off.” Medals awarded will be Double Gold, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Double Gold is a unanimous gold medal judgment from the panelists. All Double Gold wines will advance to the Sweepstakes round, to compete in six categories: White, Red, Sparkling, Rosé/Blush, Dessert and Fruit. The winner will receive the award of Best in Show. New this year...an additional judging will be done to choose the best wine made by a woman winemaker, so be sure to check the appropriate box on the entry form if your winemaker is female!
NOTIFICATION: Medal recipients will be notified within 10 working days of the last day of the competition. Actual award medals typically take six weeks to produce and will be mailed as soon as they are available. Medal winners will also be posted at www.vwm-online.com within 10 working days of the final judging day.
PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: Entrants can link their results to their web sites for a one-time fee of $55. The link will be active for six months and covers each winning wine per winery. The link must be purchased at time of entry; no refunds will be given for wineries that purchase the link and receive no award. Winners will also be entitled to display the trademarked IWWC logo on their web sites and in marketing materials in compliance with the event owner’s policies. Logos will be available for download on the event under “promotional opportunities” on the event web site.
INSTRUCTIONS: Write the class number on the entry form, along with the vintage, wine name/type, appellation or other significant information, vineyard designation(if any), production, price and residual sweetness. Be especially careful with residual sweetness; judges may reject a wine that is too sweet or too dry for its relative position in the tasting order. International entrants: please convert residual sweetness from gm/l to %. No refunds for cancellations can be made after October 6, 2011.
OVERSEAS WINERIES: Be sure to comply with the Bioterrorism Act (see usda.gov for details). Canadian wineries must arrange for shipping through licensed U.S. importers or investigate consolidation and shipment through provincial organizations (where available). All customs, transport and/or broker fees for the delivery of wines to Groskopf Warehouse in California must be paid by the winery. Vineyard & Winery Management/IWWC will not accept C.O.D. charges.
