Why create an International Women's Wine Competition?
Women choose and buy eight out of every 10 bottles of wine drunk at home*. That’s why this competition, judged entirely by women, was conceived. The mission? To provide the female perspective to professional wine buyers and consumers. This helps them identify wines that women will enjoy and ultimately purchase. IWWC is committed to the highest standards of competition. Our promise is that wines will be appropriately categorized to their best, and will be judged by leading women in the wine industry.

According to Vinexpo 2009 survey, women choose and buy eight out of every 10 bottles of wine that are drunk at home. "Women and Wine", a study of 4,306 women in France, Germany, the UK, Japan and the US, was carried out between January and March this year among the readers of Decanter and Livingetc magazines. The research was commissioned as part of a regular annual survey by Vinexpo, the world's largest wine and spirit exhibition.

This concept created an untapped opportunity when in 2007, the National Women's Wine Competition was born - a competition judged entirely by women, thus helping professional wine buyers and consumers identify wines that women enjoy – and ultimately helping wineries sell more wine.

The first competition was independently staged in 2007 in Santa Rosa, California. The competition was a smash success. First-year wine competitions typically garner 200-400 entries. But the time was ripe for the idea, and the first-year competition astounded the producers and wine industry alike by attracting nearly 1900 entries.

Now, after a passing of the torch, this ever-growing wine competition has joined the ranks of prestigious wine competitions expertly produced by Vineyard & Winery Management magazine. We have renamed the competition to become the International Women's Wine Competition, providing even a larger scope for entries in the future years to come.

Sweepstakes wine will be selected from the “Best” Categories noted below:
• Best of Show
• Best Wine by Women Winemaker (New!)
• Best White
• Best Red
• Best Rosé/Blush
• Best Dessert & Late Harvest (including Ice Wine)
• Best Sparkling Wine

Returning this year is the award for Best Woman Winemaker.  If your winemaker meets this criteria, be sure to check the appropriate box on the entry form or indicate when entering online to be included for this exciting judging category.

IWWC is committed to the highest standards of competition. Our promise to entrants is that wines will be appropriately categorized to to their best, and will be judged by leading women in the wine industry.

You're invited to enter your wines in this unique competition!
